SEMANA 9

Final Futurism Project

  • This marking period, we have analyzed elements of Futurism through a Latin@ context and lens.  We have discovered that much of Latin@ Futurism centers around "otherness", and telling stories from an "outsider's" perspective.  This is always important to consider in our ever-increasingly diverse country.

  • Create a project about Latin@ Futurism to share with your classmates.  You may either create a slideshow presentation or write a paper.

  • Your project should address:

  • PART ONE:

    • your own definition and explanation of what Latin@ Futurism is.

      • why this concept is important for all people, not just those of Latin@ heritage.

      • how the idea of "otherness/ alien/ outsider/ foreigner" has been represented in what we have read and watched in class.

  • PART TWO:

    • In addition to the requirements above, choose one Spanish-speaking country to research.                              Ideas to include in your research:

      • cultural elements related to food, schooling, daily life, religious practices, family customs, social norms, geography, weather/climate, etc.

  • PART THREE:

    • Pretend you have moved to the country that you researched.  Write no fewer than five journal/diary entries of at least 250 words/each that describe your journey into assimilating into the new culture.  Provide specific examples that address the differences between the new culture and your native culture in response to the research you have done.
